Camp TLC is a 6-day residential camp program provided by the Spina Bifida Association of North Texas (SBANT) to give children with Spina Bifida and other Neural Tube defects a true summer camp experience. Hosted at Camp John Marc's state-of-the-art therapeutic camping facility near Meridian, Texas, the camp is fully accessible and staffed by 2 directors, 55 counselors, therapists, doctors, and 30+ nurses provided primarily by Scottish Rite for Children along with Children's Medical Center Dallas and Cook Children's Hospital. Campers stay in air-conditioned cabins (6-7 campers with 3 counselors per cabin). Activities include swimming, boating, fishing, horseback riding, archery, zipline, wall climbing, adaptive sports, canoeing, arts and crafts, photography, dance, pottery, nature, cooking at a campfire, and more. The camp accepts 90-100 children and provides an excellent opportunity for independence and peer connection. Camp is funded primarily through grants and partnerships — each camper is asked to contribute $50 toward the fee, but no camper is turned away due to financial limitations and fee waivers are available.
