For thousands of years, animals have served as inspiration for human art. Understanding how creatures move, look, and behave unlocks the secrets to drawing them convincingly and inventing new ones. Studying real animals teaches observation skills and biological thinking, revealing the patterns and structures that make everything from fish to mammals work, knowledge artists use to create believable creatures and realistic illustrations. Adventurers will observe and sketch live animals during field trips to Woodland Park Zoo and the Seattle Aquarium, discovering how anatomy shapes movement and behavior. Students learn to capture what makes each creature unique while understanding the biology behind fur, scales, fins, and shells. Their ProjectFUN creation is an animal they invent and illustrate, combining real biological principles with pure imagination.
