A two-week introductory backstage and technical theatre summer camp for students ages 12-18 (entering 7th-12th grades). Designed for imaginative and curious students enthusiastic about behind-the-scenes theatre work. Students receive hands-on training from backstage/technical professionals covering: Set & Prop Design and Construction, Costuming, Lighting & Sound Production, and Stage Management. Students apply their skills to the fully produced musical productions of 'The Share Bears' and 'Disney's Frozen Jr.' and experience being part of the stage crew. Students also learn backstage safety and organization. Camp is led by Admiral Theatre Producing Artistic Director Richard Padro. The ultimate summer day camp where kids have fun with friends Monday through Friday, select a Specialty Camp they're interested in (ages 7-12), and enjoy swimming at least once per week. Specialty camps run Mon-Thu from 2:00-3:30pm and include options such as Camp Crafts, Garden Treasures, Lego Creations, Outdoor Explorers, Splash Camp, Sports Mix, Field Games, Creative Creations, Drama-O-Rama, Flag Football, Global Exploration, STEM, Ice Rink, Culinary Campers, Mad Scientist, Nature Crafts, Soccer, Basketball, Dance Blast, Arts Adventures, and Cheerleading. Camp groups are age-based (ages 3-4, 5-6, 7-8, 9-10, 11-12) with trained counselors. Daily schedule includes Camp Fire, Camp Groups activities, lunch at 11:30am, and Specialty Camp time.

A first-time camp experience for littles (ages 3-4), filled with games, giggles, and non-stop fun! Children can make friends, build confidence, and try a group environment. BPA reconnects and collaborates with Battle Point Astronomical Association! Held in their space, this camp invites students to find inspiration in the cosmos, discovering how the universe's rhythms can enhance creativity, self-growth, and storytelling. Through theatre exercises and artistic exploration, students connect the wonders of space with the art of performance. Led by Tina Guldhammer Frei.

Learn clowning, improv, and physical comedy and how they are deeply interconnected—all focus on observation, spontaneity, physical storytelling, and emotional expressiveness. A total blast for students to grow confidence, teamwork, and creativity. Co-taught by BPA improv expert Tina Guldhammer Frei and director/teacher Ken Michels.

Come and experience the joy of creation through storytelling with local children's authors! This camp blends focus and dedication with play and creativity, culminating in a brief performance of the story.

Designed for students with musical theatre and/or dance experience, or those who have previously taken a class with Anna. Dives deeper into choreography, musicality, and ensemble work—refreshing skills and exploring new movement with intention and energy. Led by Anna Vizzare.

Make projects that are sure to generate laughs — a squirrel cage and a candy dispenser — as well as a cell phone holder or a tote and maybe a few other practical things as you learn a lot about woodworking. You'll learn: How to design your projects so they hold together. How to measure and mark the pieces you need. How to cut them accurately with a hand saw, a bandsaw or a scroll saw, and a chisel, depending on the shapes you need. How to smooth pieces using a hand plane, a rasp, and sandpaper. How to fasten pieces together.

Discover the magic of playing with metal clay while creating many stunning pendants and charms during our first two days together. During our remaining three sessions, you'll explore three wonderful techniques: bead weaving, kumihimo braiding, and loom beading. These skills will help you create a variety of bracelets, ropes, necklaces, and other wondrous things on which your metal clay pieces can be displayed. Come and join this magical time and make a few of your favorite things!

The seat and back on this chair are separate pieces that slide together and interlock to become a chair. If you want to pop the chair into a car before a picnic or stow it away for winter, you can separate the sections without any tools, leaving two nearly flat, easy-to-carry pieces. Learn how the properties of wood influenced the design details of this chair. Then cut the parts and use a variety of power tools to smooth the legs and the slats. You'll attach the slats to the legs with screws.

This practical class is aimed at budding filmmakers and writers and focuses on storytelling in the horror genre. With a focus on the history and impact of classic horror films, you'll learn essential narrative techniques to create gripping and terrifying stories. Led by an industry professional, the course provides a direct pathway for you to develop your skills and break into the horror filmmaking industry. And you'll get a shirt and a hat! WARNING: This class includes viewing scenes from multiple horror films as part of the dissection and analysis of constructing truly terrifying scenes. Don't take this class if you're uncomfortable watching, discussing, and creating horror content.

What better way to learn about cultures beyond our own than to experience them through food? This is designed to be a globetrotting adventure, with each day finding us exploring unique ingredients and preparing some of the popular dishes from that country. You'll learn the art of homemade tamales from Mexico. Then you're off to Japan to perfect your sushi-making skills. Italy is next for a lesson in how to make mouthwatering pizza from scratch. You're off to Asia to master the mysteries of a few classic Chinese dishes. Thailand is your last stop for Pad Thai and more. Beyond cooking and baking skills, this camp is intended to create a fun and memorable experience where teamwork, good communication, and problem-solving are used.

Regardless of background or experience, kids thrive in this imaginative environment where feeling accomplished is as simple as participating and supporting others. While many kids take improv to have fun with their friends, other benefits include boosting self-confidence and strengthening focus, skills that are useful for success in both improv and in life. Each session starts with a few simple warm-ups followed by playing improv games, then a cool-down game before leaving. You'll have the opportunity to participate in many different types of games such as guessing, advising, scene development, and more.

Washoku is recognized by UNESCO (the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) as an Intangible Cultural Heritage, emphasizing seasonal ingredients, nutritional balance, and connection to nature. Each day, you'll create a tasty lunch of popular Japanese dishes that celebrate washoku food principles. You'll learn Japanese cooking techniques and concepts, knife skills, and guidelines for presentation.

Our food tells stories of who we are, and when we eat food from different cultures, we're traveling. Recipes will be available as guides, but you'll learn to cook with your heart.

If you're participating in BARN activities this week, you can stay after your morning activity, or come early to your afternoon activity, or stick around between activities to socialize with friends new and old! Friendly and responsible interns supervise lunchtime for youth ages 8 and up joining any activities this week.

Simple bakes like cookies, lemon bars, and banana breads require some essential ingredients but still allow for some improvisation. Learn what makes up a basic recipe and where there's wiggle room to experiment with your personal taste. Knowing the flavor-chemical reaction balance is difficult when it comes to baking, which makes most of us stick religiously to a recipe. But if you can learn how something should feel or look, you can create with more freedom. For example, what differences exist between fresh, frozen, and dried fruit when it comes to baking? Or, how do you achieve the feel-perfect balance of butter or liquid to make a perfect scone or pie crust, and when do you stop working the dough?

Come to the Welding Shop and learn how to work with metal, or build on your current metal-working skills. You'll begin with a safety briefing so you can safely work in the shop. Then you'll learn how to use all the tools you'll need to make your creations, like MIG (Metal Inert Gas) welders, cutters, grinders, vices, and spot welders. Once you've got the basics, you'll practice your skills in making your own imitations of the things you see in the wild (flowers, birds, or animals). You'll use old spoons, forks, table knives, and other scrap metal parts we've collected at BARN. A wonderful opportunity to learn new metal shop skills while having great fun!

Learn the basics of woodturning and advance to making bowls in this one-week intensive. Designed for high school students with no woodturning experience as well as students who have used a lathe at school, we'll cover material typically taught in BARN's Intro to Woodturning and Intro to Bowl Turning . Begin by learning to shape a piece of wood secured at both ends while it's spinning on a lathe, a technique known as spindle turning. Then advance to bowl turning, where the wood is secured only at the bottom during final shaping. Expect to make two bowls about 6 to 7 inches in diameter. Learn the best bowl shape for a novice turner, how to safely mount a blank on the lathe, and how to use a scroll chuck and bowl gouge for smooth and efficient cuts.
